Abstract

This proposal presents a specific discussion of the practice of rights claims of incarcerated women. The context of denial of rights produces a very dramatic way of demanding attention from institutional members. “Balancing the bars” becomes a collective attention-claiming ritual that mobilizes agents for a specific situation. This practice is sanctioned with consequences in jail time for prey. Thus, this discussion may contribute to the discussion of the control devices and the point of view of the prison agents regarding the rights claim practices, since the denial of rights can lead to the prolongation of their time in prison.
