It is an inquiry in the field of the sociology of the legal professions conducted as a complete observant participation. It aimed to identify and analyze the building process of the professional identity of the full-time professor of law in Brazil. Therefore, it is qualitative research where it was conducted 24 narrative interviews with full-time professors that work in a specific public law school in a relatively small town in the country side of Brazil. Besides that, the researcher used its own direct observation and a documental analysis of the professors’ curriculum. There were analyzed the professional trajectories of the professors of the group. It was possible to identify an autonomous identity of the full-time professor of law in Brazil. We labeled this identity as “shy” – because it was grounded in the need of social justification – and described as a characteristic of a professional that valorize a certain life style.
