The purpose of the event “Rethinking access to justice: old problems, new challenges” – held on May 30, 2017 at the FGV DIREITO SP, which involved scholars of law, political science and sociology – was to discuss an agenda of access to justice that is appropriate to Brazil today and to its real problems. The objective was to challenge the renewal waves model, questioning whether they would make sense in Brazil, once the welfare state – the premise of the universalist model of access to Justice proposed by Cappelletti – has never been effectively implemented among us.
